Concepts & Philosophy

Physical skills are an important part of the advantages gained through Wing Chun training; in addition Young people will learn to develop problem solving strategies. In Kids kung fu we train for a healthy body and mind. The concepts that we apply physically, can be interpreted as methods for dealing with problems in life. This is the base that we teach children from; not just a physical technique, but as a model to understand principles and improve thinking which, when developed through experience, can cross over into other areas of life. Wing Chun utilises ideas like the Centre line. Defining and using a Centre line in kung fu, makes everything we do more simple to understand and more easy to achieve.

When we are faced with a problem in life, understanding the concept of centre can help us find a more direct route to a solution. In kung fu, physical sensitivity plays the part of messenger. When we meet an obstacle, we learn to feel a path around or find another way through. Equally, we train for a flexible mind, to deal with the challenges of life. We show young people that they should initially use their own knowledge to assess and attempt to solve problems, before asking for someone’s help. We believe that training in a martial arts is great for children and that those practising with us can develop (amongst other benefits) a heightened sense of responsibility and higher levels of self-respect.

True Kung Fu trains practitioners to be better, more rounded people. Personal development, philosophical thought and superior life skills should always be the ultimate aim of martial arts.
